Sharing best practice - Principal's Meeting

Last week the Principals of our 13 kura had their termly meeting. This time we tasked them with sharing an area of practice in their school they are particularly proud of and it was awesome to hear all the diverse and innovative things happening across our Kāhui Ako. See a brief summary of the ideas below and feel free to approach the WSLs from those schools if you are interested in finding out more:

  • St Benedict's - buddy classes (students supporting students and building relationships)

  • St Anthony's - online sessions with Wellington Art Gallery

  • St Patrick's Primary - wrap around support (new students who need support, with an emphasis on a calm peaceful approach)

  • St Patrick's College - Kai Ako Korero (informal lunchtime meetings for staff to practice speaking Te Reo)

  • Holy Cross School - using resources from Julie Beattie (Learning Solutions) to build up staff capability to support English Language Learners

  • St Bernard's - Science Fridays where students choose an area of focus, visits to College Science labs and linking in literacy and culture

  • Sacred Heart Cathedral School - emphasis on embedding culture mostly via art, using support from Kura Ahurea and Pasifika Innovation funding.

  • St Catherine's College - supporting leadership initiatives from Māori and Pasifika students via representation on the BoT and ex-students facilitating cultural hui

  • St Francis de Sales - using "The Code" as a structured literacy tool (see picture below)

  • Cardinal McKeefry - publishing test results for parents

  • St Teresa's - a growth mindset regarding covid with students problem solving and writing their own safety rules for events
